Halifax
The capital of Nova Scotia, and presided over by the spooky
hilltop Halifax Citadel, Halifax Nova Scotia harbour town has long been a key
trading port, but today is more popular for its fresh sea air and lively buzz.
It is a mix of historical heritage and modern seaside chic,
with quaint old buildings, arty boutiques and gourmet eateries.
Pictou
Often referred to as the ‘Birthplace of New Scotland’,
Pictou, in Nova Scotia, lies on the magnificent Northumberland Shore in Canada
and is the place where the first group of Scottish settlers made their home in
1773. With its spectacular greenery, beautiful reflective waters and fun-filled
historic waterfront, the town makes a wonderful holiday destination offering
both natural and heritage attractions.
The natural harbour where the Scottish once landed is now
called the Hector Heritage Quay, and is home to a replica of the original ship
which once brought the settlers here.
Visitors can hear about how the ships of that time were
made, see displays about the immigrants' stories, and see fascinating
memorabilia. Follow this up by relaxing at one of the harbour’s lovely
restaurants. A boardwalk from the marina links to the enthralling Trans-Canada
Trail.
Cape Breton and the Cabot Trail
Cape Breton was voted the number 1 island to visit in North America by Travel and Leisure magazine, the Cabot Trail is one of the most scenic destinations in the World, with scenic ocean vistas, old-growth forests. prehistoric rocks all sitting in the shadow of the Cape Breton Highlands. Located in Nova Scotia, yet not far from Prince Edward Island, Cape Breton is a must-see for anyone looking for traditional log cabins, rugged coastlines, and villages with familiar Scottish names.
If the 165 miles of the Cabot Trail is not enough to keep you busy, try fly fishing for Atlantic Salmon, Mackeral fishing on the Jersey Cove Shore, meet the Atlantic Puffins or simply marvel in the beauty of this wonderful island.
